The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) is said to be the official body regulating engineering and geoscience professionals in Saskatchewan. In Canada, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) grants numerous membership classifications to engineers and geoscientists. While membership with APEGS confers certain privileges, including the right to vote and various volunteer opportunities, these are subject to membership classification.
Member-in-Training
This is that category wherein engineers and geoscientists are undertaking work experience, reference checks, and preparation for the Professional Practice Exam. This is the first stage in attempts to eventually be registered as a fully licensed individual with APEGS in Canada.
Professional Membership
Professional membership is granted for members who have completed all requirements to be an engineer (P.Eng) and/or geoscientist (P.Geo) in Canada. This includes the completion of academic qualifications, relevant work experience, and passing of the Professional Practice Exam.
Engineering Licensee / Geoscience Licensee
This is for applicants who practice engineering or geoscience with practice but do not have full academic qualifications for P.Eng or P.Geo status. The privileges of licensees are very similar to those of professional members, but they may have a limited scope of work. Any queries concerning academic qualifications may be addressed to APEG representatives Kate MacLachlan and Tina Maki. There are no application fees for engineers-in-training or geoscientists-in-training.
Life Member
Life membership is conferred to a person 65 years or older, who has retired from active practice. Life members shall not be liable for annual membership or licensing fees. Application for life membership requires a letter, email, or fax to the APEGS office including: “I wish to apply for life membership as I am eligible and meet all requirements of life membership.”
Temporary Licensee
Engineers already registered in Texas or under a Cedula in Mexico may apply under APEGSC for temporary registration. Temporary license holders are not required to take the Professional Practice examination. The process of qualifying as a registered full professional member, whether P.Eng or P.Geo is made easier when applicants can demonstrate that they satisfy five major requirements:
