The full form of AMIMechE is Associate Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. MIMechE stands for Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The full form of FIMechE is Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. It is the highest level of membership. This grade is issued to those who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to and innovation in mechanical engineering.

Fulfilling the UK-SPEC: Competence profiles and case studies:

For professional registration under UK SPEC, you have to fulfill a set of national standards to demonstrate your skills, knowledge, and experience. This is known as the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC), and it is used to assess all engineers wishing to apply for being registered for the grade of an Incorporated Engineer (IEng), Engineering Technician (EngTech) or Chartered Engineer (CEng).

You can submit an application to upgrade to Fellowship if you are an IEng, CEng or EngTech Member.

You may still apply to the Fellowship directly, which would allow you to make a more comprehensive questionnaire. Whereas, we can also test your EngTech, IEng or CEng 's competence.

Not yet registered as a CEng, IEng and EngTech?

If you have not already been licensed as a chartered engineer, incorporated engineer or engineering technician, whereas we have to evaluate you as part of your bachelor’s qualification about the skill criteria for one form of registration.

Your application for Fellowship and registration will need to incorporate:

  • A completed Direct Fellow CEng or Direct Fellow IEng, which indicates how you fulfil the skill and scholarship requirements.
  • Documents justifying themselves, such as certification documentation.
  • Two sponsors' signatures (on the submission form). A Colleague requires to be one of the sponsors that will sign on your submission form.
  • The amount of the fees needed for the application.
