APEGS Membership Categories
Are you a geoscientist or engineer who wants to settle down in
Saskatchewan and work there? If so, then read this blog. Here, we will
tell you about the APEGS membership categories so that you have a clear
idea of each category. Thus, you will be able to plan your journey to
become a licensed engineer in Saskatchewan.
The following are the APEGS membership categories:
Member-In-Training:
A member-in-training is a geoscientist-in-training or
engineer-in-training having fulfilled the academic requirements to
become a professional member, which includes direct confirmation of
graduation, but not having fulfilled the work experience requirement,
written the PPE (Professional Practice Exam),or given references. A
member-in-training can only do engineering or geoscience work under a
professional member. The professional member bears the responsibility of
the work of the member-in-training.
Professional member:
A professional member is a professional geoscientist or professional
engineer who has fulfilled all the required criteria to attain a
professional membership and can be accountable for their engineering or
geoscientist work. There is not any specification of their practice
field on the license, but they can work only in the areas in which they
have competency.
Geoscience licensee or Engineering Licensee:
A geoscience licensee or engineering licensee who doesn’t fulfill the
normal academic qualifications for P.Geo. or P.Eng., and who has both
education and experience that make them capable of taking their work
responsibility within a particular and restricted practice scope.
The way an engineer with a license has the same privilege as a P.Eng,
the same a geoscientist with a license has the same privilege as a
P.Geo. The difference lies in the fact that a licensee will have a
particular scope of practice, defined and accepted by APEGS, shown on
their license. This is the practice scope that the professional can
independently practice within. If a licensee desires to change their
practice scope because of extra experiences in areas, they have to apply
again and submit five years of work experience that is in harmony with
the changes they request to their current practice scope.
In case of having any doubt whether you can fulfill the academic
requirements or not for professional membership, then contact some
APEGS assessment,
help providers. If still, it is not clear whether you can fulfill the
academic requirements even after taking professional services, then you
should apply either as an engineer-in-training or
geoscientist-in-training to know the results. If you find in the result
that you don’t fulfill the academic qualifications, you will have the
option to fulfill the deficiencies or apply either as an engineering
licensee or geoscientist licensee if you applied as an
engineer-in-training or geoscientist-in-training in the past.
