CIHT Transport Planning Professional

CIHT, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Transport Planning Society award the Transport Planning Professional (TPP) qualification.

This qualification is to provide professional recognition for transport planners. It provides recognition in the same way that a Chartered Engineer qualification recognizes the highest level of engineering competence. Let’s know about this qualification more:

The TPP qualification was developed by the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Transport Planning Society (TPS).

Applicants for this qualification have to demonstrate an appreciation of a wide range of planning techniques and procedures. In addition, they need to demonstrate competence to work effectively in their chosen areas of the profession. Successful completion of the TPP qualification will allow you to register as a Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP).

If you want to apply for the TPP qualification, you need to complete an initial assessment. CIHT will confirm the options that are available to you in an initial assessment outcome e-mail.

When you complete the TPP assessment, you can be qualified to be a Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP).

Requirements to become Transport Planning Professional (TPP) qualified:

  1. You need to have a CIHT membership or be a member of TPS or CILT.
  2. Give proof that you have attained an appropriate level of learning. It can be either through the attainment of formal qualifications or/and structured vocational training. Or, through submitting a report demonstrating the attainment of the learning outcomes to the satisfaction of TPS and CIHT.
  3. Prove competence across a wide range of transport planning procedures and managerial techniques.
  4. You need to have practical experience in transport planning. Besides that, you must have been engaged in different types of transport planning projects. This engagement can help you demonstrate the breadth and depth of competence necessary for the TPP qualification.
  5. Prove that you have undertaken at least 25 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) a year. It must be for at least 2 years before making your TPP application.
You are likely to require a minimum of five years of experience in transport planning. In addition, you need to have been engaged in a variety of transport planning projects. Having this will allow you to demonstrate the breadth and depth of competency necessary to earn this qualification.
