CIOB Fellowship Requirements
A fellow of the CIOB is amongst the most knowledgeable and
experienced professionals in the construction industry. The professional
has global recognition for their skill and attainments.
If you desire CIOB's Fellowship, read this blog. Here, we will tell you
about the requirements you need to fulfill for this membership. In
addition, we will also familiarize you with the application process and
the like.
Requirements:
You need to possess at least 5-year experience leading an
organization, people and contributing to the industry, society or
communities. Aside from that, you must also have responsibilities that
extend to working with sector stakeholders. This work needs to show a
contribution to the wider industry or the general public. Moreover, the
experience could be through industry-specific charities such as the
Construction Youth Trust or the
CIOB or other stakeholders. The stakeholders can be universities, schools, communities and community groups or government agencies.
Fellowship is independently benchmarked and is equivalent to a
British Master’s Degree. This work has been done by the expert
qualifications agency, UK ENIC. This agency gives information about
qualifications to governments and government authorities and educational
organizations across the world.
Application process:
If applying to upgrade from MCIOB, you need to produce a 3,000-word
reflective account of a project or initiative you have led. Using it,
you will be able to demonstrate your competence in leading people and
organizations within the sector.
In the case of applying directly for a Fellowship, you need to
produce an additional 3,000-work report. This report must be based on a
project or initiative you had led. The report must allow you to
demonstrate you fulfill the standards of the professional review for
MCIOB.
Every candidate attends a professional discussion, called a viva voce
exam, which lasts nearly 1 and a half hours. Trained professionals
conduct this exam, and this exam includes 2 assessors and 1 chair. The
discussion is based on your written project and interactive discussion
on a topical issue affecting the industry.
Before you can move ahead with your written application, the
authority will ask you to attend a workshop. This workshop can be in
CIOB’s London or Bracknell Office. Besides that, it can also be via
Skype if you are unable to undergo the whole Fellowship process. The
authority will charge you £155 to attend this workshop. After that, this
fee will be reduced from the £700 Fellowship Assessment fee when you
submit your final application.
CPD in ethical practice:
No matter what the occupation is, applying ethics in practice is the
hallmark of a characteristic of a genuine professional. It means that
ethics should inform your decision-making in everything you do in the
workplace. So, any occupation or technical learning or development
activities should include ethical consideration for the best practice. CIOB's CPD
in ethical practice requires that all members reflect upon the ethical
aspects of any learning they have achieved. In addition, they need to
reflect upon how they applied those in practice.
