The practice profession of the Engineers

APEGS is the regional organization that provides a license to professional engineers and Geoscientists in Saskatchewan and Canada. Only Engineering Licensee APEGS professionals are authorized by law to carry duty and accomplish professional engineering tasks.

It is a licensing body that ensures high standards of geoscience/engineering practice in Saskatchewan. It holds the responsibility to set standards for admission into the profession.

According to the Engineers and geoscience Profession Act, practice of profession has been categorized as –

1.   The practice of professional Engineering –

It tells that any act of planning, formulating, designing, measuring, assessing, instructing, examining, organizing, or overseeing that applies with engineering principles. It also concerns the safeguarding of health, life, economic interest, property, and the environment.

2.  The practice of professional geoscience –

This is the application of principles of geoscience that is not limited to geology, geochemistry, geophysics, or any act of processing data. It is furthermore expanded towards –
  1. The development and discovery of natural gas, oil, and coal. It also included the discovery of metallic and nonmetallic minerals, precious stones, and other resources.
  2. The investigation of sub-surface or surface geological conditions.
APEGS also holds a responsibility to avoid any sort of illegal practice of geoscience and engineering by unlicensed engineers. Work experience reporting APEGSis a competency-based assessment for Engineers, which helps the engineers to have a better understanding of engineering competencies and how they can improve their current skills to match the required ones.
